What is special about this place?
Here is a trivia question for you, what is special about this building?
If you think you know what significant (CICS related) event went on in this building, add a comment. The first one to guess correctly wins … a “I ♥ CICS” sticker.

Is that where Andy practices his bongo playing?
I have heard that Andy only plays his bongos wearing nothing but a Tom Baker era Dr Who scarf… so I don’t think he would get through security at this building.
Is that not the IBM Development Labs in Des Plaines, IL where Ben Riggins started working in CICS?
Hi Ian,
No it’s not. It is in the US though (the fire hydrant gives that away), but you are thinking along the right lines…
Oh I want to win a Sticker!!!
How about — The Lab in Palo Alto where CICS/VS 1.2 was the last release made in the states before the move to Hursley?
Or how about the Lab in Santa Teresa that was built in 74
Hi Diane,
Sorry no, think younger (e.g. more recent), and by CICS related, I mean CICS TS related… Here is another view.
Did the concept of Transaction Server – was it developed in this building in Trenton, NJ which now houses BMC (850 Bear Tavern Rd, Trenton)?
Or how about, an IBM office where they first Web-enabled CICS using HATS??
(Can you tell I’m guessing??)
Diane
So it’s not the headquarters of the Hursley Water Rocket Association???
The birth place of CICSPlex SM!
I thought CICSPlex came out of Hursley…….
Well I knew giving a precise location would make it pretty easy … we have a winner! …..
Ian is right, it is the birthplace of CICSPlex SM!
Although CICSPlex SM has always been an IBM product and the development/project driven from Hursley, the initial versions were subcontracted out to Boole & Babbage (now BMC). This is the building where the Boole & Babbage developers originally toiled.
Testing was done in Hursley, though a number of the testers and product architects etc, spent plenty of time in this building in West Trenton.
CICSPlex SM 1.3 was the last release of the product that the Boole & Babbage developers worked on, since then the developers have been based in Hursley, though part of the CICSPlex SM support team are based in Raleigh NC.
The photo credit goes to Paul Johnson (PJ), who was over in NJ recently.
Impressive, I didn’t think anyone was going to get that one! Grant, I have the nice version of the I heart CICS stickers in my office if you want to give Ian his reward.
As I’ve never seen anyone so enthused by the thought of a CICS sticker I’m sure we could find one for Diane as well.
Thanks guys for putting this question out there.
It was a nice break in my day to try and figure it out. I enjoy a good trivia question…..
Grant and Chris….
Just to let you know, the stickers arrived today.
Perfect timing – as I am about to do a training CICS session for our interns this afternoon.
Thanks again!
